Voluntary associations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) have historically played a vital role in India’s development journey by addressing grassroots challenges and promoting inclusive growth. In Punjab, these organizations contribute significantly across sectors such as education, health, livelihoods, women’s empowerment, environmental sustainability and social welfare.
Their close engagement with communities enables them to understand local needs, mobilize participation and strengthen programme delivery. Inclusive development emphasizes equitable access to opportunities and services for women, children, youth, the elderly, persons with disabilities and economically vulnerable groups.
Reflecting its commitment to sustainable progress, Punjab secured a composite score of 68 in the SDG India Index & Dashboard 2020–21 released by NITI Aayog, ranking in the “Front Runner” category and performing above the national average.
Voluntary associations and NGOs in Punjab serve as critical partners in translating policy priorities into meaningful action at the community level. Strengthening their institutional capacity is essential for enhancing programme effectiveness, monitoring, documentation, governance, and accountability.
Structured mechanisms such as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), introduced under Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013, provide important avenues for resource mobilization, particularly across Schedule VII priority sectors.
Building clarity on CSR eligibility, registration through Form CSR-1, compliance requirements, and financial transparency enables NGOs to access and manage resources responsibly.
This one-day workshop is designed to deepen understanding of inclusive development frameworks, strengthen community-based planning and implementation skills, and equip organisations to design CSR-aligned projects, build effective partnerships, and undertake meaningful impact reporting thereby enhancing their contribution to Punjab’s inclusive and equitable development journey.
